Essential Questions: What issues prompted the creation of your amendment?(R.A)
There was one main issue that prompted the creation of the 25th amendment, this was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. When he died, there was no one to take over for him. In the original Constitution, it was not clear whether, in case of a President's death, the Vice President would become the permanent President, or just the Acting President. This prompted Congress to add something to the amendment that would specify what would happen in this kind of situation. What impact did your amendment have on society at that time?(R.A)
The 25th amendment did not have a large impact on American society when it was first created. This is because, the amendment was not actually put into effect until 6 years after it was created. However, it reassured the citizens that whatever happened to the President, there would always be a solution. This was important, because America was in the middle of the cold war at that time.
What is the 25th amendment? (R.A) (F.C)
The 25th (XXV) amendment is located in Article II, Section 1, Clause 6. It is made up of four different sections. The first section essentially states that the Vice President will become the President if the president resigns, dies or is removed from power. The second section states that if there is no Vice President, the President has the power to select a new one, but the President's choice must be approved by Congress. The third section states that the President may temporarily pass their power to the Vice President. The fourth section states that, in an emergency, the Vice President, along with members of the cabinet, are allowed to declare the President unfit for his/her job. This amendment was ratified with a majority vote on February 10, 1967.

It was instituted to specify that the Vice President would become the President if the president were to resign, die or be removed from office. The 25th amendment was created to determine this.
The people who are credited for the proposal of the 25th amendment are Birch Bayh and Emanuel Celler. They introduced resolutions that would clarify the original rules on Presidential succession stated in the Constitution. This originally was a problem because when John F Kennedy died there was no one to take his position as President.

Thirteen days after ratification, President Lyndon Johnson certified the amendment and it was added to the Constitution. 4. When was the amendment first used? (F.C)
