Essential Question Paragraphs

Our amendment's creation was prompted due to a worry that if the president died the country would be thrown into total chaos with warring states trying to get a candidate into office. They thought if we were without a leader for a tiny amount of time we would have war declared against us. This was such a big issue to them that even if it was by some random country so they thought without a president our response time would not be fast enough and they would take over our country. The president and vice president decided that if the president was to die, resign, be removed from office or be incapacitated for any amount of time the vice president would be president. Congress approved the 25th Amendment on July 6, 1965, the States completed ratification by February 10, 1967. once Vice President Ford became President after Richard Nixon resigned, and he nominated Nelson Rockefeller to be the Vice President. Before the 25th amendment the succession system was horrible vague and in need of revision. The 25th amendment fixed the flawed process originally in place.

There are many things that impacted the 25th amendment on society at the time it was created. For example if the president is impeached or dies, than the vice president takes over his job. Thant impacted society because occasionally they could have a president they did not want. Therefore the citizens might not have been happy with the presidents all the time. Plus there is the chain of succession which has the entire peoples names in order of taking the place of the president's job if he cannot fulfill the his duties. For instance, this amendment also helps society because without this amendment if the president could not fulfill his duties we would be in total anarchy. In addition with this amendment if the president can no longer be president, then the vice president can take over. Here are a few examples of why we need this amendment, on June 29th, 2002 George W. Bush the president, and Richard B. Cheney, the vice president took over as president from 7:09 to 9:24 because George W. Bush had to get a colonoscopy. In conclusion this amendment had a huge impact on society because without it our country would be out of control.

This article was about how the amendment was first created. The amendment was first created when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1967. His death sparked the immediate ratification of this amendment. This amendment really should have happened quite a bit sooner. There had been 8 cases prior to this that required this amendment. The first case said "What happens if the President dies?". When

William Henry Harrison died the country did not know what to do. The vice President John Tyler took the oath but some thought that he should not. In 1963 the amendment was first proposed. But when Kennedy died they ratified it immediately.

This amendment is still relevant today for many reasons. This year we have a few older people running for office and if they happen to be laid to rest we need something to keep our government up. The amendment also states the same succession policy for assassinated Presidents. This is even more important today considering our options today *cough Trump cough*. I believe this was a very informative article. I did not know that it had been "used" so many times. And most of them before it was actually created! Overall this was a good article that still has meaning today.

This article is about the 25th amendment and why it is a good amendment to the Constitution. The amendment was written after John F. Kennedy was assassinated to provide specific duties and roles of the vice president. The amendment was used specifically used when George Bush and Ronald Reagan underwent surgery and were under general anaesthesia. The vice president became president until the former president recovered. This amendment also defines that the president can appoint the vice president but must vote don by the majority of the house and senate. This was used by Richard Nixon when his vice president resigned. Then when Nixon was forced to leave office, Lyndon Johnson appointed Rockefeller to be vice president. This amendment has been used quite frequently since it was ratified.

The article pointed out many reasons why we needed the 25th amendment. It started when Harrison died and the country did not know what to do. John Tyler became president but, many opposed this because there was no clear rule. Many people thought there should be another election for president. I believe this amendment provides for continuity of our government. Also another great point is that if the president cannot fulfill the duties, the vice president can take over temporarily. The president can also resume the office when he is fit. A current example would be if Hillary Clinton becomes president and then gets impeached. The 25th amendment is just as important as the Bill of Rights.
