2. Why was the Second Amendment put into the U.S Constitution?
Many people debate as to the reason the Second Amendment was put into place. Many people say that the amendment was created to help maintain a militia, and only people in the militia can keep and carry weapons legally. Others say that it was created so that citizens can own guns to protect themselves in case they are in any kind of danger. Both ideas have been the cause of the new controversy on what the Second Amendment is actually allowing people the right to.

3. What is the debate on the Second Amendment about, and what side does the Supreme Court agree with?
The big argument on the Second Amendment is whether or not the amendment provides for collective rights, or individual rights. The people who believe in collective rights say that the amendment was provided to have a strong army. The people who believe in the individual rights say that the amendment was provided as self defense, as stated above. The Supreme Court had an issue in 2008, which made them to revisit the topic on what side of the debate they agreed with. The had eventually decided that the second amendment was to protect individual rights, such as defending yourself in your home when needed. Article Title:Sandy Hook Elementary shooting leaves 28 dead, law enforcement sources say
Article Date: Published: December 14, 2012

Five things I learned from this article
1. I learned that that Sandy hook was a big shooting and many people got hurt and killed.

2. At the school, authorities said, Adam Lanza shot and killed six adults including the school’s principal and 20 children.

3. After he killed all twenty seven people, and he killed himself.

4. This caused many problems to people all over the world because they did not feel safe with Amendment Two.

5. The Sandy Hook shooting became the second deadliest shooting in U.S. history.
My opinion of the article is...
The Sandy Hook shooting was a Massacre that happened early last year.In the tragedy we lost many lives because of someone with a gun that killed not only himself but 28 other students, teachers and the principle. This made people wonder if we should keep or change the 2nd amendment. People all over the world have different opinions about this. Many people think that you should not be able to own a gun because of what you can do with it when it gets in the wrong hands. On the other hand a gun can also be used to protect your self in self difference.

Gunman Kills 12 at ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Screening in Colorado
Article Date:
July 20, 2012

Five things you learned from this article. Please write in complete sentences:
  1. The gunman released a toxic gas before shooting, to make escaping more difficult for people and the injured.
  2. According to police, the gunman was armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and two handguns.
  3. Before the man started shooting, the spectators had thought he was part of the show, since he was dressed in all black, and the movie was The Dark Knight.
  4. When police found him in the parking lot, he didn’t resist arrest.
  5. The masked gunman had killed 12 people and injured around 50.
My opinion of the article is… (5-6 sentences)
My opinion on this article is that, based on this event, more people are abusing the rights the Second Amendment gives them. According to Colorado’s gun laws, anyone who lives in Colorado can carry a handgun, but only in certain places, and only to protect yourself. Obviously, the gunman had broken the rules and had injured or killed many people in the process. He had misused the Second Amendment and because of that many people got hurt. This horrible event and many others is the reason why citizens are debating on whether or not to revise the Second Amendment, so that things like what happened in Colorado never happen again. My opinion is that we should revise the Second Amendment, so that guns can go in the right hands, and not to people who abuse the rights they were given.
