15th Amendment is an Amendment which gave the right to the African American men to vote. Although the African American men were able to vote women weren't allowed to vote at that time.
Q. Why did the government choose to let African Americans, slaves, and other races vote?
A: Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president, declared that the government should protect African-American rights because by giving them more rights,African-Americans will have an impact on the government in the future. President Grant worked closely with Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War to lead the Union Army. (Anthony)

A. Most Southern states did not follow the law and ignored it. Slave owners would not let their slaves vote for anything, even if it meant being punished if the government found out. 7 Southern states tried to bypass it by adding grandfather clauses to their constitutions. They didn't want the African Americans to vote because they thought they would favor the Northern States. Another reason was that KKK (Ku Klux Klan) threatened the African Americans and the Caucasian Republicans. The KKK kidnapped and even killed some of the African Americans so that they cant vote. This Amendment was one of the greatest Amendment for the African Americans but for these issues it took almost a CENTURY to allow the African Americans to vote for what they want! These were the issues that prompted the creation of the 15th Amendment.

The 13th and 14th amendments, which banned slavery and allowed African-Americans to become American citizens, were very close to the 15th amendment. The 15th amendment showed that African-American men had as much power and responsibility as Caucasians. This amendment, however, was a major cause of the Civil War between the Northern and Southern states. Fortunately, the Northern states won and African-Americans were no longer used as slaves. This amendment had a great impact on rights for African-Americans.
