The issues that prompted the creation of the amendment were that president Roosevelt changed the drafting age from 21 to 18 without changing the voting age to 18 too. During the Vietnam War, an especially deadly war, many men from ages 18-20 were drafted and it angered them. Of being drafted angered them, but what made them more angry was that they couldn't even vote. They were risking their lives for their country and hardly had a say in any of its political decisions. This made them angry because they could be sent to war, but couldn't vote for the person who sent them to war. Thus came the saying "old enough to fight, old enough to vote". People proposed the amendment to the government and the ratified it, therefore making it active and is the reason why 18 year olds can vote.

It was so important to the Vietnam war because they were in a dangers place and were angry that they could not vote.They wanted to be able to fight and vote for there country. This struck congress, they decided that if they don't change the law to vote at 21 then they might lose some of the army. So in 1971 they made it a law, and then not long after they made it a amendment. Also this amendment also impacted people outside the army, it impacted women who were 18. Before the woman right to vote these people were told they could not do a lot of things, then the made a law and a few years later they are told they could vote at 18.Finally people got use to the idea and started calling 18 year old people adults.

Although it led to some unknowledgable votes, many people who vote know what is politically going on and don't just vote for the funniest or most characteristically appealing candidate. This article is about how some people from the Dominican Republic are scared that they are going to be denied the right to vote in the upcoming election. Most of the people worrying about it are of a Haitian descent because many think they might be illegal immigrants and will not grant them proof of citizenship. To clarify, proof of citizenship is required to be able to vote in elections. In fact, some people have been denied the right to vote because their name sounds slightly Haitian. Some U.S. officials are saying that no human rights regulations were violated. They say that every right is in order and is fine. When brought to a hearing, the U.S. government said that it's position was that ""The government's position is that everyone can exercise their political rights, no matter their race or background," government representative Mayelin Cordero testified."
My belief I that everyone should be able to vote as long as they can prove that they are a citizen of the United States. However, many bigot politicians and officials are denying people of the Dominican Republic's rights to votes. This will affect of because the entire population can heavily affect the votes and who will win the election of 2016. For example, any illegal immigrants or legal immigrants alike might be scared of Donald Trump because of his heavy immigration laws and policies and believe that the might end up being deported for proper reasons or improper reasons respectively. They will most likely vote for one of the Republican candidates if given the right to vote because of that. Ultimately, this ill affect the outcome of the election and how the country is run for the next four years.
