How did the issues which prompted the creation of this amendment? Compare with the issues they are applied to today?
Citizenship is important because there is not as much prejudice and people get along, no matter their differences.
1. When was the fourteenth amendment created?
The 14th amendment was proposed on June 13th, 1866 and ratified on July 9th, 1868.
2. Why was the amendment created? The amendment was created to protect the rights of native-born black Americans.
It also guaranteed people the rights that if they were born in the United States, they were considered a citizen, even if their parents were illegal immigrants.
3. What did people think of this amendment when it was created?
Free! Card showing a slave reaching towards freedom.
Slaves liked this amendment because it gave them the rights they deserved.
White people, especially southerners, who fought to keep slaves, would be very mad, and still don't treat African slaves with respect.
White people from the north, who fought for slaves would be happy and realize that they changed history.
4. Who created this amendment? Congress was the original founder of this amendment. Most of congress agreed with the idea of the citizenship amendment. 5. What president was serving when this amendment was ratified?
Andrew Jonson was president when this amendment was ratified. His presidency took place right after the civil war ended.
6. What states agreed on the creation of the 14th amendment?
Since the Civil War had recently ended, southern states did not want the amendment to go into effect. Northern states, however, agreed on the 14th amendment.
7. Do people today benefit from this amendment?
People did benefit from this amendment because if we didn't create this amendment we would still have slaves and still be fighting over the slaved citizens.Historic changes and people, such as Barrack Obama becoming the 44th president of our nation wouldn't occur. Plus, our country's population would decrease and we wouldn't be the powerful country we are today.
8. Where is most illegal immigration coming from?
Most illegal immigrants are from Mexico, and towards Central and South America. Few are immigrating from Canada or other countries.
9. Do all citizens have the same rights?
Yes, all citizens have the same rights. However, citizens might receive different rights at different ages, such as the right to vote, which only people 18 and older have.
10. Did this amendment affect other amendments?
Yes, this amendment affected amendment 13, by abolishing slavery so slaves can be considered citizens. This also affected amendment 15 by creating all races equal. This gave African Americans the same rights and there was not as much racism.

This news article is about how illegal Mexican and Central American immigrants are a big problem for Mexico and America. I.C.E. ( Immigration and Custom Enforcement) intercepted about 120,000 illegal immigrants total and 114,000 illegal immigrants are from Central America.I think this article was helpful because it told us that our borders are weak and need to be strengthened so the immigrants can become legal before coming to the U.S.

bout aCanadian man, illegally smuggling South Koreans into America by driving them here, where the Koreans later crossed by foot into America. Fortunately, American guards caught the Koreans and the Canadian man.The Canadian turned out to be transporting these illegal immigrants for money.Without the 14th amendment, America's border lines wouldn't be as strong and illegal immigration would be a greater threat to our country because it is so powerful. The problems faced back then, therefore, the amendment canrelate to problems today.
LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS - Eric
A big problem is if illegal immigrants should have licenses. Approximately 7 million people in the country are illegal and the government has no concern over fi

nding them or preventing more illegal immigrants from crossing the border. Most immigrants drive with no licenses or car insurance. Arnold Schwarzenegger and most of California oppose the licensing of illegal immigrants. Most people who oppose of this licensing law may have been right to worry that it would be too easy for illegal immigrants to get licenses. There would be many problems to this license law. If it was passed, then there may be too many cars on roads and that can be very dangerous. We have enough accidents in this country today. The worst thing we can have is more cars on the road to create more traffic jams and confusion. I think you only should have a license if your are a legal citizen or lived in the country for over 20 years or more. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E06E1DF163AF935A15752C1A9659C8B63&sec=spon=&pagewanted=print
