This article is named "Perfectly Legal Immigrants, Until They Applied for Citizenship."
Summery:
This article is about this family who were legal immigrants who got rejected for their citizenship. In the last 12 years the rejection rate for citizenship has been very high. The New York Times has interviewed many people who have been denied as a citizen for many reasons that were not fair. There was about 85,000 people were denied their citizenship last year. One family was kicked out of the country because they thought their green card made them eligable to vote. Immigration Officials say that the denials have gone up because more and more people have been applying for citizenship. To become a citizen in this country you must have lived here for more than 5 years and must demonstrate being a good person to show that you are ready to be a citizen.
