The seventh amendment in our own words: If someone press charges on you you have the right to have a jury. The jury can decide if you are guilty or innocent.
Q: Why was the seventh amendment created? A: The seventh amendment was created December 15th, 1791. In 1688, judges that were English were under the command of the King of England. Judges were not always fair. In 1701, the judges won their freedom from the King. However, the judges were still unfair towards the King. There were no more trial by juries in the Colonies because King George III abolished this system. The colonists were angry about this situation and this was one of the causes that led to the American Revolution. The bill of Rights was then written by the Framers. They knew that they had to have a fair court system. They provided the right for a trial by jury.

There are no alternate jurors. Also, the jurors serve for a one month term, but some jurors do not serve for an entire month depending on their case.
Q: Who can be on a jury? A: A person can be a juror if they are older than eighteen. They also must be a United Sates citizen. But to do this you you should have lived in a judicial district for one year. You also have to know how to read, write, and speak English. To be a juror, you must be physically and mentally capable to serve. Finally, you must have no major criminal records. The jurors will be on-call for about a month but you may not be a juror for that long either.
Q: What is the maximum amount of money you can sue someone in small claims court? A: When the Seventh Amendment was written in the 1700s, $20 was considered a lot of money. Today, any disputes that involve amounts less than $75000 wont be handled in a federal court. If you are suing a person you can sue them up to $10,000. If you are suing a corporation than you can sue the corporation up to $5,000.

The right we have is to have a trail by jury, this right is called the seventh amendment. Bill tried to take the seventh amendment away but Rep. Mabra didn't allow that. This case took place in Georgia. This issue did not change the creation of the seventh amendment. Today in 2014 we still have the right to sue and have a trial with a jury. Another famous case is the O.J. Simpson case. In 1995, there was a murder case which involved football legend O.J. Simpson. Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ronald Goldman were murdered in their condo complex. O.J. Simpson became a suspect. However, O.J. Simpson plead not guilty to the killing. The trial began on January 24, 1995 in Los Angles, California. O.J. Simpson placed the gloves that were used during the murder on his hands. They did not fit his hands. Therefore, attorney Johnny Cochran found him to be not guilty. A civil case was filed against O.J. Simpson. A civil court jury made him pay $25 million to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman. Also, the jury gave the Goldman family 8.5 million for damages done to his family. O.J. The seventh amendment in our own words: If someone press charges on you you have the right to have a jury. The jury can decide if you are guilty or innocent.
Q: Why was the seventh amendment created? A: The seventh amendment was created December 15th, 1791. In 1688, judges that were English were under the command of the King of England. Judges were not always fair. In 1701, the judges won their freedom from the King. However, the judges were still unfair towards the King. There were no more trial by juries in the Colonies because King George III abolished this system. The colonists were angry about this situation and this was one of the causes that led to the American Revolution. The bill of Rights was then written by the Framers. They knew that they had to have a fair court system. They provided the right for a trial by jury.
Q: Who can be on a jury? A: A person can be a juror if they are older than eighteen. They also must be a United Sates citizen. But to do this you you should have lived in a judicial district for one year. You also have to know how to read, write, and speak English. To be a juror, you must be physically and mentally capable to serve. Finally, you must have no major criminal records. The jurors will be on-call for about a month but you may not be a juror for that long either.
