In the 1800s the 18th amendment was created. It was created because religious groups were just using alcohol for drunkenness, and other people were selling it and trading it illegally which was the temperance movement. So this amendment prohibited the use, possession, and selling of alcohol. People were not very happy with this amendment at all. There were people protesting on the streets saying things like "no beer no work", and shouting they they wanted beer and alcohol back. This action prompted the idea to make a 21st amendment So because of all this disagreement and protesting the congress decided that they needed to make their people happy and come up with a solution. So they came up with the 21st amendment. 36 states ended up ratifying this new amendment. This amendment now allowed the use, possession, and selling of alcohol again. Answer: The negative effects that this amendment have on society are that now that people are allowed the use of alcohol again more injuries are bound to happen. This is because lots of adults during that time drank alcohol just to get drunk. And if they are using alcohol for this use than it can become unsafe for that person and the people surrounding them.
2. Do you think this amendment will really help society? Answer: I do think this amendment will help society, I also think that it will not help society. I think that this amendment will help because selling alcohol and making it will allow more people to make more money by selling it. How ever marijuana is illegal, although many states including the western ones are now making it legal. The reason they are legalizing it again is because even though it was illegal too many people were selling it and making lots of money off of it. So there governments felt that because they were making so much money they should just make it legal again. This was because they would be able to tax it and make more tax money too. Another reason that they made it legal again is because it was hard to keep so many people from selling it and buying it. Even though it is legalized again they are still very strict about it. For example, it should not be handled by young people and you have to be a certain age to buy it.
